Kosovo’s government has officially approved a decision to temporarily host the first group of 50 illegal migrants deported from the United States. This was confirmed during the government’s 262nd meeting held on Wednesday.
According to the decision, these individuals will stay in Kosovo for up to one year, with the purpose of enabling their safe return to their countries of origin. The selection of the individuals will be based on criteria concerning the rule of law and public order, from a list proposed by U.S. authorities.
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized that during their stay, the migrants will respect Kosovo’s laws and will be entitled to the rights guaranteed by the country’s legislation.
In a statement on Facebook, Kurti reaffirmed Kosovo’s readiness to support its key ally, the United States. “The United States remains our unwavering ally, and the Republic of Kosovo will always be a trustworthy partner. We deeply appreciate their continued support on our path toward Euro-Atlantic integration” Kurti wrote.
