The Kosovar family that prepares “byrek” in New York, how are they using social networks to promote their work?

On Arthur Avenue at 189th Street, right at the corner, you can find Tony&Tina’s Pizzeria. The red and black flag is one of the Albanian motifs that speaks of the ancestry of the owners.

What his father started, Filip Kajtazi continues now. Tony&Tina has been serving the Bronx since ’92, when his father was one of the first to sell byrek in the area.

The Kosovar with ancestry from Hasi goes to his place every day, where he prepares together with his family traditional food “byrek”. Filip Kajtazi is glad to sell this food because of the culture.

“We have a long history of preparing food as a family, we are the first in New York to start making pies called “byrek”. It’s a tradition from Hasi” said Kajtazi.

He says that people are so interested in visiting his business. Albanians are more enthusiastic about the pies prepared by the Kajtazi family.

“Albanians always come to eat pies (byrek), which remind them of their culture. I think that this makes it very important for the Albanian culture. There were many people from different European countries who visited us” says Filip Kajtazi for Atlaniku.

A way to promote his business is “Tik-Tok”, Filip Kajtazi is posting everyday in this social media.

“Tiktok helped me a lot to promote the work we do” he says.
