The government of Kosovo claims that there was a plot to kill Albin Kurti in 2021

Kosovo’s government said on Monday it had information from security institutions about a plot to kill Prime Minister Albin Kurti in 2021, but the announcement had not been made public “so as not to cause panic”.

The government’s comments followed a report by Albanian television station A2, which claims to have obtained information about the plot from data published online by Iranian hackers.

According to the television station, the police of Kosovo had addressed the police of Albania with the notification that an Albanian citizen was planning to kill the prime minister of Kosovo, a member of parliament and another person, “in order to destabilize the country”.

In a statement by the government of Kosovo, it is stated that Prime Minister Kurti “was informed about this case by the Kosovo Intelligence Agency. Security institutions have taken all measures to prevent this action. The case has not been made public in order not to spread panic”. The government did not provide more details, while the Kosovo police did not comment on the reports.

A2 television said the information was revealed as part of the latest cyber attacks on Albania.

On September 7, the Albanian government accused Iran of being the author of the massive cyber attack that hit its information technology systems on July 15, paralyzing all online services for several days. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the decision to cut “with immediate effect” diplomatic relations with Tehran.
