Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama directly called on U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene regarding the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague. Speaking at a Peace Board meeting, Rama recalled efforts during Trump’s first term that brought Kosovo and Serbia closer than ever to a potential agreement.
He said that at the time Kosovo’s president was prevented from traveling to the White House to sign the agreement and referenced prosecutor Jack Smith in connection with subsequent judicial developments.
Rama stated that former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has spent six years in pre-trial detention at the Special Court in The Hague, describing the prosecution’s request for a 45-year sentence as shocking. He argued that international justice in this case has failed to uphold democratic standards and urged Trump to “do something” before, as he put it, “many bad things could happen again.”
Rama also confirmed that Albania will send troops to Gaza as part of an international initiative, saying he is honored for his country to take part.
