Poll Shows Albanians Overwhelmingly Choose USA as Top Ally

Share

In a recent survey conducted across the Western Balkans by the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research (CISR), the allegiance of Albanians to the United States stands out prominently. The survey, conducted between February 2 and March 5, 2024, encompassed Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

One of the pivotal inquiries in the survey focused on identifying the most significant ally and threat perceived by respondents. The results from Albania and Kosovo shed light on the profound bond between Albanians and the United States.

In Albania, the sentiment towards the United States as the most crucial ally resonates strongly, with an overwhelming 58% expressing unwavering support. This resounding endorsement places the United States ahead of other contenders, with Italy and Turkey trailing at 10% and 8%, respectively.

Meanwhile, in Kosovo, the sentiment towards the United States eclipses all others, with an extraordinary 80% of citizens viewing the U.S. as Kosovo’s most vital ally. The depth of this allegiance is evident, with only 6% citing Albania and 5% Germany as alternative allies.

The fervent support for the United States among Albanians is not confined to mere sentiment but extends to geopolitical aspirations as well. When questioned about joining the European Union (EU), strong majorities in five of the surveyed countries, including Albania and Kosovo, indicated a willingness to embrace EU membership. This enthusiasm ranged from 68% in North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to an impressive 92% in Albania and 89% in Kosovo.
