During her official visit to the United States, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met with the Albanian-American diaspora and honored them for their historic contribution to Kosovo’s freedom and independence.
In an emotional ceremony, President Osmani awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit, including distinctions like the “Order of Independence” and “Hasan Prishtina”, to prominent Albanian-Americans who played a key role during the 1980s and 1990s, when Kosovo was facing oppression under the genocidal regime of Slobodan Milosevic.
“During the 80s and 90s, when the Albanian people in Kosovo were under threat, our diaspora in America became the voice of hope — not just for our survival, but for our freedom and independence” said Osmani.
