As his term comes to an end, New York City Mayor Eric Adams held a special event dedicated to the Albanian Roots organization and the Albanian-American community, recognizing their growing impact in the city he called “a home shaped by immigrants and built by unity.”
The event — held just weeks before Adams leaves office — brought together leaders and friends of the community. Among them: the Rusi family, represented by Sal Rusi; Marko Kepi and Bedrana Duka, who together made possible the first-ever Albanian Roots Parade in New York — a historic day for Albanian pride in America.
Eli Rusi opened the night welcoming guests as the Albanian Roots Dancers performed the traditional “Vallja e Dibrës.”
In his remarks, Mayor Adams thanked the community for its energy and contribution, saying that “Albanians are a positive force and an essential part of New York’s story.”
Also attending were Ambassador Ervin Bushati, Foreign Minister Miriam Shyti, and the beloved singer Gëzim Nika, whose performance filled the hall with emotion.
