Michel: Kosovo should focus on dialogue, the liberalization is decided by the EU countries themselves

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in a press conference after the meeting he had with the President of the country, Vjosa Osmani said that the focus of Kosovo should be the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

Michel stressed the need to implement the agreements reached in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

“It’s an urgent moment for Europe. As we speak, Russia continues to attack Ukraine. I want to thank you for your clear position on the war in Ukraine and the implementation of sanctions against Russia. The war has an impact on food and energy prices in the region, including Kosovo. We had the opportunity to discuss EU-Kosovo relations and say that the Western Balkans is a strategic partner. “We welcome the focus on implementing reforms and those on key issues, such as the rule of law,” said Michel.

The President of the European Council also spoke about visa liberalization as he said that EU countries decide one by one.

“We also discussed visa liberalization. I have listened to the arguments carefully and you know that the EU member states have to decide on this issue. “Kosovo’s focus should be the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and the implementation of all agreements.”

Meanwhile, President Osmani reiterated that Kosovo has met the criteria for visa liberalization, while announcing that there are still some countries from which they are waiting for a final answer to this process.

Osmani said that he should wait until the Brussels meeting to be held on June 23.

“We are in contact with all member states. I want to reconfirm that Kosovo has met all the criteria. This has been confirmed several times by the Commission and the European Parliament. There is no reason for this process to be blocked. “There are still some countries from which we are waiting for a final answer, which we will wait for in the coming weeks, especially at the Summit that will be held on June 23”, said Osmani.
