Biden announces new military aid to Ukraine

Share

US President Joe Biden has announced a new $ 1.3 billion bailout package for Ukraine. The new package includes military and economic aid to Kiev.

Biden said the weapons would go “straight to the front lines of the freedom movement” to support courageous Ukrainian forces and civilians fighting the Russian occupation of the region.

“We are at a critical juncture when they are getting ready for the new phase of this war,” Biden said as he spoke from the White House on April 21. The United States and its allies are “moving as fast as possible” to provide Ukraine with the equipment and weapons it needs.

President Biden said he would ensure that the new weapons of this new aid package are sent to Ukraine in the coming weeks. The new package includes weapons such as artillery, howitzers, 144,000 rounds and tactical drones.

The US, according to Biden, will continue to share intelligence with Ukrainian forces in the short term and will facilitate the delivery of weapons by allies and other partners around the world.

Biden also announced about $ 500 million, which will be the direct economic aid that the US provides to Ukraine to stabilize the economy.

The US president has also asked Congress to approve another billion dollars in aid to Ukraine next week, as the $ 13.6 billion in aid approved last month has almost been spent.

He vowed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “will never succeed” in invading Ukraine and stressed the need for continued unity among Western allies.
