There is no candidate for president of Albania even in the second round

The second round for the election of the President of Albania did not produce any surprises. The parties again did not submit any candidacy for the new name that will be promoted to the chair of the head of state, after the removal of Ilir Meta from the office.

Under these conditions, the Law Commission decided to forward the report to the Assembly, which will convene at 18:00 in the afternoon to put it to a vote, calling this round exhausted.

“Even for this round there are no candidacies, the second round is called completed.”

16:00 on Sunday afternoon was the deadline to deposit the candidates, but the breakdown of the consensus between the parties made the agreement between Taulant Ballës and Enkelejd Alibeaj last very little.

On behalf of the parliamentary group, Alibeaj accused the majority of violating the document previously agreed on the procedure for selecting candidates, where according to him the name that would be submitted for voting in the second round should have the signatures of the Socialists.

But Taulant Balla denied that such an agreement had been agreed with the opposition, inviting the latter to continue negotiations, as until the third round the majority would not nominate any candidate.

By the third round, 84 votes are needed to approve the new name of the President, while in the fourth and fifth rounds, a simple majority, 71 votes, which the Socialists have alone.
