Kosova Sends “Dua” to Oscars, Makes History With Two Films

Share

Kosova is making history at the 99th Academy Awards, becoming the first time the country will have two films competing in the prestigious Oscar race.

The Kosovo Cinematography Center’s Selection Committee has chosen “Dua”, directed by Blerta Basholli, as Kosova’s official submission for the “International Feature Film” category.

The decision was made by a committee consisting of Kaltrina Krasniqi, Antoneta Kastrati, Ilir Hasanaj, Tristan Halilaj, and Vullnet Sanaja.

In its evaluation, the committee praised actress Pinea Matoshi’s performance, highlighting her portrayal as authentic, convincing, and emotionally powerful. The committee also recognized Basholli’s artistic vision in creating a deeply human story that explores an important chapter of Kosova’s history.

This year marks a major milestone for Kosovar cinema. Alongside “Dua,” the film “Shame and Money”, directed by Visar Morina, has also qualified for Oscar consideration after winning the “Grand Jury Prize” at the Sundance Film Festival.

For the first time ever, Kosova will have two films competing for one of the world’s most prestigious film awards, marking a historic achievement for the country’s growing cinema industry.
