Vasfije Krasniqi Goodman, one of the most powerful voices of sexual violence survivors from the Kosovo war, has been featured in the prestigious Vogue magazine as part of the international project “Let’s Talk About Rape”.
Led by activist and photographer Jadwiga Brontē, the project highlights the stories of 250 women worldwide who have survived rape and sexual violence. Through self-portraiture and storytelling, these women reclaim their voices in a world that too often silences them.
Vasfije was only 16 when she was kidnapped and raped by Serbian forces during the Kosovo war. In 2015, she became the first Albanian woman from Kosovo to speak publicly about her experience, turning into a symbol of courage, justice, and resilience.
In her Vogue portrait, Vasfije holds a shutter cable in her hand, taking the photo herself — a bold act of empowerment and authorship over her own narrative. It’s more than a photo; it’s a statement to the world.
