Dea Kamberi, the proud daughter of Albanian immigrants, just made her mark in American academic history. The 2025 valedictorian of Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester is now headed to Harvard University, representing the very best of the Albanian-American dream.

A first-generation American, Kamberi credits her success to her parents’ sacrifices, her love for learning, and the support of the strong Albanian community in Worcester. Her resume is nothing short of extraordinary: 12 Advanced Placement courses, 7 dual-enrollment college classes, countless hours of volunteering, and national awards like the Bank of America Student Leader and Distinguished Young Woman of Massachusetts.

“I wanted to show other kids from immigrant families that no goal is too big” Kamberi told local media. Her motivation? A blend of ambition, humility, and pride in her roots. Growing up attending Worcester’s Albanian Festival and dancing traditional valle, she embraced both heritage and hard work.

Her academic journey was inspired by her older sister, her mother, and even Michelle Obama, whose book Becoming shaped her early goals. She started aiming for valedictorian in middle school — and never looked back.

Kamberi also found passion in helping others — tutoring students, encouraging classmates, and shining in programs that connect young leaders nationwide. “Everything was uncertain, but that excited me” she said about the national leadership summit in Washington, D.C.

Outside the classroom, she’s a talented artist, self-taught pianist, and digital illustrator with a growing online presence.

Now, with Harvard in her sights, she plans to study government and economics, with dreams of one day becoming a public official focused on justice and policy.

“My story is just beginning” Kamberi said. “But I hope it inspires others to write theirs.”
