A press conference on immigration and criminal justice reform was held in New York City.

Calling on the Congress to approve the reforms in the immigration system in order to modernize it for the 21st century, the organizer of this conference, the Albanian-American activist Admir Molla, spoke in front of the audience.

“I am truly humbled by this opportunity. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that the little kid who fled war and genocide would have the opportunity to be a voice for nearly 15 million Americans. 15 million Americans that because of politicians in Washington D.C. don’t have an opportunity at the full American Dream.”

Molla further adds that the United States of America must change, or else it will lag behind.

“This is a pivotal moment in American history. This country needs to become a good neighbor. Being a good neighbor is much easier than building a good fence. Especially a fence that’s going to be 2000 miles long. The reality is the world is changing and this country is either going to change with the times or is going to get left behind.”

During a press conference attended by members of Congress, the Senate and state officials, Molla
added that the new reforms would boost the economy, create millions of new jobs and reduce the deficit.

“We have more than two million fewer Americans participating in the labor force today compared to February of 2020. We desperately need more workers to recover post-COVID.
America is a nation built by immigrants, and it will always flourish and remain a City upon a hill by embracing our diversity and constantly looking forward. We’re a better country when we make sure everyone has a chance to meet their full potential. We say we’re a country founded on the ideals of opportunity and equality, and we have a real responsibility to live up to those values.”

He further adds:

“Let us move forward and pass legislation that gives Dreamers a pathway to citizenship. Let us move forward in finally tackling immigration reform and modernizing our system to meet the needs of our 21st-century economy. Let us move forward and build a country the next generation can be proud of, and that everyone feels at home regardless of their skin color, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or status.

Albanian-American activist Admir Molla is also a collaborator with the American Civil Liberties Union.
