Sebije Neloviç, an Albanian immigrant and cleaning staff member at the luxury high-rise building 345 Park Avenue in New York City, survived a deadly shooting incident that took place last Monday, leaving four people dead, including the shooter himself.
The attack occurred in the early evening, when a man armed with an automatic weapon entered the building’s lobby and opened fire, killing three individuals. He then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where Neloviç was working at the time.
Authorities believe the gunman did not intend to target anyone on that floor, but rather was aiming for the NFL headquarters located within the same building. Investigators found a note in his pocket suggesting he suffered from CTE, a degenerative brain disease often associated with professional football players. It is believed he mistakenly took the wrong elevator.
Neloviç, 65, managed to survive by hiding in a utility closet down the hallway. She remained hidden for over two hours before being rescued by police officers. The shooter had taken his own life shortly after the attack.
Following the incident, Neloviç said she continues to experience emotional trauma and distress. She later learned that her colleague, 27-year-old Julia Hyman, who worked on the same floor, was among the victims.
Neloviç had been working at 345 Park Avenue since 1998 and always felt safe at her workplace. The tragedy has shocked the local community and reignited concerns over workplace safety and gun violence in the United States.
