The Albanian artist Andis Gjoni, together with his colleagues, was wildly applauded on Thursday evening at the “Frank Shiner” Theater in New York for the scenes performed in the opera “Angel of the Amazon”, a work that touches on one of the biggest problems of humanity today, the destruction of forests and the environment creating serious problems in the world’s climate and endangering the future of generations to come. A very current topic for Albania as one of the countries with similar problems in environmental protection.

This was the main reason that led me to agree to be part of this interesting project which goes in the same direction as my principles as an artist that with my art I want to contribute to public awareness everywhere, for a better world and in respect of nature and fauna”, said Andis Gjoni, known for his exhibitions in the visual arts, but also as the first artist who brought the genre of musicals to Albania with the realization of the scenes and costumes of well-known Broadway works such as “West Side Story” and “Kiss Kate” as well as the staging of one of the most famous American operas “Porgy and Bes” at TKOB in 2009, for which he directed, set and costumes.

The collaboration started in Albania with the well-known American director Nenci Rodes with the above-mentioned works, has continued again this time on the other side of the ocean, in New York, where Andis Gjoni has been applauded many times in the realization of scenographies appreciated by critics as ” a real universe that responds in a very creative and original way to the idea of ​​the author of the work he puts on stage”. For his work and participation in various international festivals, the Albanian artist has also been honored with awards.

In “Amazon’s Angel”, Andis Gjon’s scenography embodies and remembers in an original way, the collective memory in the protection of the environment through striking colors and images, putting into perfect use all the elements that the opera breaks down during its development.

While the director Rhodes praised the work of the Albanian scenographer, calling it “excellent, in accordance with the content of the work and an indisputable achievement”. Andis Gjoni comes to this show after the successful premiere a few days ago at the Sheri Theater in North Hollywood of Los Angeles with the drama “Broken Story” by Sindi Marion, for which he created the scenography.
