Republican Joe Hoxha won a third term in the Connecticut House by just 164 votes, according to unofficial results. Four other Albanian candidates lost, and Edlira Sako was trailing in partial counts.

With all precincts reported in Bristol and Plymouth, Hoxha took 4,585 votes, or 50.91%, to 4,421 for Democrat Nate Brown. Hoxha, born in Tirana, carried Plymouth by 400 votes and lost Bristol by 236.

His win came on a strong night for Democrats, who were projected by CBS News to win both the US House and Senate. In the neighboring 77th District, six-term Republican Rep. Cara Pavalock-D’Amato lost her seat.

In New York, Republican Diamant Hysenaj lost to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the 14th Congressional District. Hysenaj, who left Kosova in 1991 and settled in the Bronx, took 21.54% of the vote to 78.22% for Ocasio-Cortez, with 97% of scanners reported.

Democrat Shpetim “Tim” Qorraj, who came to the US from Kosova in 2011, lost to Republican Michael Tannousis in the 64th Assembly District, 39.33% to 60.53%.

In Connecticut, Republican Peter Lumaj lost the race for Secretary of the State to Democratic incumbent Stephanie Thomas. With about 90% of precincts reported, Lumaj had 37.53% to 62.47% for Thomas. Lumaj also ran for the office in 2014.

Republican Alma Sarelli lost her bid for an open Connecticut State Senate seat in the 26th District to Democrat Samantha Nestor, 34.6% to 65.4%. Sarelli conceded on election night.

“I wish her the best of luck as she works for our district,” she said.

In Michigan, Democrat Edlira Sako was trailing Republican Doug Wozniak in the race for the 24th State Senate District, 37% to 63%, with 53 of 66 precincts in a partial count. Official results have not yet been posted.

All results are unofficial until certified.
