The EU agrees to send another 500m euros in military aid to Ukraine

The 27 European Union member states have agreed to send another 500m euros in military aid to Ukraine, senior EU diplomat Josep Borrell said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said it was essential that the European Union increase military support for Ukraine as Russia prepares for a new offensive in the east of the country as “the coming weeks will be crucial”.

This is the third military aid package the EU has agreed to send to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian occupation.

In total, the EU has sent 1.5 billion euros in military aid.In February and March, the EU announced two previous tranches of military aid, each worth 500m euros, which was the first time the bloc armed an country that is not a member of the EU.

The € 500 million aid includes equipment, fuel, medical equipment and weapons.The Ukrainian government has announced that other EU countries, such as Slovakia and the Czech Republic, have already provided heavy weapons.
