Ëndrra e Shqipërisë për t’u bërë pjesë e Bashkimit Europian mund të jetë më afër se kurrë. Marta Kos, Komisionerja e Zgjerimit në BE, ka deklaruar se Shqipëria mund të bëhet shteti i 29-të anëtar i Unionit deri në vitin 2029 – nëse reformat vazhdojnë me ritmin aktual.
Në një intervistë për Radio Evropa e Lirë dhe gjatë Forumit Strategjik të Bledit, Kos shprehu optimizëm se Shqipëria mund të përfundojë negociatat e anëtarësimit deri në vitin 2027, duke hapur rrugën për anëtarësim të plotë dy vite më vonë. Ajo theksoi se qeveria e Edi Ramës ka bërë përparime të rëndësishme në reformat gjyqësore dhe ligjet e lidhura me BE-në, të cilat janë kushte kyçe për anëtarësim.
Megjithatë, Kos theksoi se vendimi përfundimtar është në duart e shteteve anëtare të BE-së, që do të thotë se politika në Bruksel mund të ndikojë në afat. Zyrtarë të tjerë të BE-së dhe analistët parashikojnë që Shqipëria të anëtarësohet më realisht rreth 2030, ndërsa disa të tjerë paralajmërojnë se procesi mund të zgjasë deri në mesin e viteve ’30.
