Kosovar astronomer Pranvera Hyseni has achieved an outstanding milestone in science, earning the annual award for the best PhD proposal in the Department of Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz. This is one of the highest academic honors in the field, granted only once a year to the most promising research project.
The award, accompanied by a $3,000 grant, places Hyseni among the most prominent names in planetary astronomy. Her research focuses on asteroids and small bodies in the Solar System, particularly those containing water and organic compounds. She combines laboratory experiments with telescope observations and theoretical modeling to study material transformation processes and the distribution of water in the early stages of our Solar System.
“This award is not only a personal achievement but also proof that passion for science knows no geographical boundaries” Hyseni said, expressing gratitude to the evaluation committee and her colleagues.
Her success is yet another inspiring chapter for Kosovo’s scientific community and a strong motivation for young people pursuing STEM careers.
