German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has called for the rollback of almost 1 million older cars worldwide due to potential problems with the braking system.

Over the weekend, the company has said it will contact car owners, as the braking system may be subject to what is known as “advanced corrosion”.

The car return request affects 993,407 cars, including 70,000 in Germany.

Mercedes has made similar calls to cars last year due to problems with the emergency call system.

The company has said that the cars included in the last call were manufactured in the period 2004-2015 and are of the ML and GL series.

“We have found that in some cars the brake booster function can be affected by advanced corrosion. “It is possible that a particularly strong or strong braking maneuver will cause mechanical damage to the brake booster,” the company said in a statement.

Mercedes has said it will accept the cars immediately, to identify any eventual problems and replace parts, if necessary.
