“Investments in Kosovo and security for Kosovo, in light of the existing problems in the Balkans, have been the goals of the visit to the United States,” Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti told reporters at Pristina Airport on Friday.

He returned to Kosovo on Friday, after staying for three weeks in the United States.

Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that he visited the White House in Washington and met with the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, and the topic of this meeting, which he called very special, was security for Kosovo.

“We have sought support for NATO’s Partnership for Peace program, which is the first, most important step towards NATO membership. We talked about the possibilities to help us for membership in the Council of Europe, where we have already applied. “We have some countries there, which have observer status – in addition to member states – among which, the United States of America seems to be prominent”, said Kurti, adding that Kosovo’s intention to apply for membership in European Union.

The Kurti-Sullivan meeting took place on 18 May. Sullivan voiced US support for the EU-mediated dialogue to reach a comprehensive agreement on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the need for further progress on key unresolved issues.
