Kosova has emerged as the largest source of foreign investment in Albania for the first nine months of 2025, signaling a significant shift in the economic dynamics of the Western Balkans. According to official data from the Bank of Albania, Kosovar investors injected approximately €153 million into Albania between January and September, a 139% increase compared to the same period in 2024, surpassing traditional investors such as Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

Several high-profile transactions illustrate this surge. Viva Fresh Kosova acquired Spar Albania for €36.4 million, marking one of the largest single Kosovar investments in Albania this year. ALBI Holding purchased Fashion Group Albania for €7.6 million, strengthening its presence in regional fashion retail, while KAN shpk, led by Fatmir Zymberi, acquired Global Fast Food Albania, taking control of the KFC brand rights in the country. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and ENEF II also backed Viva Fresh with €25 million in financing, underscoring international confidence in Kosovar investment initiatives.

By the end of September, the overall stock of Kosovar capital in Albania reached roughly €550 million, representing a 42% increase year-on-year. While Italian investors still hold a larger total stock of investment, the pace of new Kosovar investment demonstrates a rising influence in the Albanian market. Analysts say this trend is not only a reflection of increased capital flows but also of growing regional integration and the emergence of Kosovar enterprises as a significant force in cross-border business.
