Bajram Begaj was sworn in as the eighth president of the Republic of Albania. In the post of head of state, he will replace Ilir Meta.

During his speech, Begaj said that the majority and the opposition must find a way to cooperate before the conflict, stressing that we are living a difficult period because of the war in Ukraine.

“It is an honor for me to address the Assembly as the new President of the country. The responsibility comes at a historic moment for our country. Our beloved Albania has entered an irreversible European path. The legacy of dilemmas belongs to the past. It is the fulfillment of projects European Albania belongs to Gjergj Kastriot and Mother Teresa, to citizens who have the talent and ability to win in a society based on merit.

I know and support the work of the government and the Albanian opposition. I would like to never see conflict before cooperation. The period we are living in is one of the most difficult since the Second World War. Russian pressure has plunged the country into another crisis.

Albania and the Albanians are lined up on the right side alongside the allies. We must respect decisions, not avoid tasks and not take advantage of difficult moments. This is the only way we respect the hope of our citizens”,  declared Begaj.

Bajram Begaj, received the trust of the majority of deputies in the Assembly to be the new President of the Republic of Albania. In the parliamentary session of June 4, 2022, Begaj was elected the new President of Albania with 78 votes in favor, 4 against and 1 abstention (83 deputies participated in the vote).
