A 53-year-old man from Kosovo, identified as Besnik Ismajljaj from Gjilan, was arrested on board a plane in Chicago just minutes before takeoff after authorities found a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag.
The incident occurred last month at O’Hare International Airport. According to U.S. media, Ismajljaj managed to pass through security with a Glock 9mm pistol during a shift change at Security Checkpoint No. 2 in Terminal 1.
Bodycam footage shows Ismajljaj sitting in first class when officers boarded the plane and escorted him out. When asked if he knew why they were there, he calmly responded, “Yes, it’s in my bag.” After stepping off the plane and being handcuffed, he added, “I forgot.”
TSA officials revealed that an agent did notice the gun on the X-ray scanner, but Ismajljaj reached for his bag and proceeded to his flight before being stopped. Another passenger waiting in line identified him as the person carrying the weapon.
The video also shows officers placing him in the back of a police van on the runway before he was taken to a detention room where he was read his rights.
Ismajljaj has been charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon in an airport. His court hearing is scheduled for June 9.
