The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, arrived in Tirana on Friday for an official visit. Michel was received with an official ceremony by the Prime Minister, Edi Rama.
Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed his gratitude for the European Union at the joint conference with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
The head of government also said that Albania is proud to be part of the front against evil, while referring to the war in Ukraine.
“Beyond the difficulties of the process, beyond the aspects of the moralization of the steps, we are at a completely different level of coexistence in the European political framework. As a result of a willingness expressed by the EU to bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU. I am convinced that Albanians will not find it superfluous to repeat the expression of gratitude for the EU support in the most difficult moments from after the earthquake to the pandemic period. On the other hand I want to emphasize that we feel very proud to be part of the common front that today is the front of good against evil. “We talked with President Michel about the general situation, but also the challenges of the war in Ukraine,” Rama said.
Rama revealed that he talked with Michel about the general situation, commitments and challenges, as well as the issue of integration.
“We talked with the president about the general situation, commitments and challenges for the war in Ukraine… We talked about the progress of regional relations, the Open Balkans, all the internal challenges of the region and the reforms in our country. Starting from that in Justice that is bearing significant fruit. Yesterday we followed the SPAK operation of the State Police to crack down on a criminal network and perhaps to give it the biggest blow… As well as bringing individuals to justice despite their political convictions. This shows that we have taken significant steps even compared to the countries that have already opened negotiations.
