Kurti: US officials are not requesting an Association of Serb majority municipalities

Share

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that he will not accept an Association of Serb-majority municipalities in the form it is, as this version was rejected in many points by the Constitutional Court.

He said that the agreement with Serbia should be focused on mutual recognition and not on the Association, and in this regard he says that it is in line with the US.

“The association has not passed the court test. There may be an Association, but not on ethnic grounds. In the way it is in the spirit as it is, no. You have to keep in mind that at the center is not the Association, but mutual recognition. “No American official says the Association should be at the center.”

Kurti said that Kosovo is OK in the dialogue with Serbia, but the latter is not in denial of the Recak Massacre and refusal to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

“Kosovo has not taken steps back [in dialogue], but Serbia which has lagged behind as it does not admit the crimes it has committed. I am ready, Serbia is not and there is no fault in any instance of the independent state of Kosovo “.

Kurti said that President Biden has well formulated that mutual recognition should be at the center. He also added that in the past Kosovo has made concessions to receive recognition from Serbia, but that this has not happened for 10 years.

“We want normalization and dialogue for agreement, not dialogue for dialogue.”

Kurti told VOA that his visit to the US has two main purposes; attracting investment from America and increasing Kosovo’s security, especially from the US.
