German Minister of Defense, Christine Lambrecht, said on Thursday, May 5, in Prishtina that Germany supports Kosovo’s aspirations for membership in the European Union and NATO.
In a press conference, after the meeting she had with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, she said that Germany will continue to provide training for the Kosovo Security Force, and that German forces will continue to be present in Kosovo, within the NATO mission in this country, KFOR.
But for rapprochement with the EU, she mentioned taking some steps she considered important, including Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia.
“I hope that this process will take on a new dynamic and I hope that there will be good decisions on May 13 in Brussels. “The first steps could be for mutual recognition of documents and this would be a good signal.”
Kurti, on the other hand, has expressed optimism that there may be something concrete on May 13th.
“On May 13, I hope that we will finally have agreements for mutual settlement of license plates, also on the issue of non-payment of energy in northern Kosovo, as well as the need to accelerate the issue of clarifying the fate of the missing. , of the forcibly disappeared “.
Kurti said that he talked about these topics the day before, May 4, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, at an informal dinner in Berlin, which was also attended by the EU envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak. .
“I believe that Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia, facilitated by the European Union, should take place within the values of the EU, have a transformative character, and both Kosovo and Serbia, with their citizens, benefit and approach membership in BE. This dialogue should result in agreement, but this agreement should have mutual recognition at the center. “I can not say that mutual recognition is the only element, but it should be at the center.”
