A delegation of U.S. congressmen from the United States Department of State, consisting of Congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam, at the request of the organization Albanians for America, will conduct an official visit to Kosovo and the Presheva Valley from May 26 to May 28, 2026.

During their stay in Kosovo, the congressmen will hold meetings with Kosovo state institutions, international security authorities, local leaders, and representatives of Albanians in the Presheva Valley.

The visit aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United States of America and Kosovo, discuss regional security developments, and support the rights and position of Albanians in the region.

As part of the visit to Kosovo, the congressmen will meet with representatives of the central institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as with American and international security authorities at Camp Bondsteel, the main base of American forces in Kosovo. The delegation will also meet with representatives of civil society and the media.

Following the visit to Kosovo, the congressmen will travel to the Presheva Valley, where they will meet with the Albanian National Council, Albanian political representatives, and the leaders of the municipalities of Presheva and Bujanoc, focusing on the rights of Albanians in the Valley, political developments, and the challenges faced by the Albanian community in this part of the region.

The visit comes at a time of increased engagement by the U.S. Congress regarding security and stability in the Western Balkans, as well as the advancement of Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

Notably, Congressman Self introduced a legislative initiative in the United States Congress in January of this year dedicated directly to the situation of Albanians in the Presheva Valley. The initiative, called the “Presheva Valley Discrimination Assessment Act,” aims to address the manner in which Serbian authorities approach the rights of Albanians in Presheva, Bujanoc, and Medvegja.

In February 2026, during a security conference in Washington, Self, who chairs the Europe Subcommittee in the U.S. Congress, emphasized the strategic importance of Kosovo’s membership in NATO, describing it as a key factor for stability and balance in the Balkans. He warned that the region remains vulnerable to tensions and stated that Kosovo’s progress toward NATO would help prevent destabilization and strengthen regional security.

Likewise, only three weeks ago, Congressman Keith Self, together with Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives expressing strong support for Kosovo’s integration into NATO. According to a statement published by Congressman Self’s office, the resolution emphasizes that Kosovo’s functional democracy, civilian control over security institutions, and the multiethnic character of the state provide a strong foundation for membership in the alliance. The document also highlights that Kosovo’s integration into NATO would serve as a stabilizing factor and a deterrent against destabilizing efforts by hostile actors in the region.

Albanians for America expressed gratitude for the continued commitment of Congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam in support of the Albanian cause, regional stability, and the strong partnership between the American and Albanian peoples.
