Thousands of Albanians Take Over the Bronx for Skenderbeu Street Fair

Share

Thousands of Albanians filled the streets of the Bronx on Sunday, May 4, for the 4th Annual Skënderbeu Street Fair — a powerful celebration of culture, tradition, and community pride.

Held in the heart of Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, the festival turned the neighborhood into a sea of red and black as families, performers, and local businesses came together for a day full of music, food, and national pride. Organized by the Albanian American Open Hand Association (AAOHA) and supported by the Belmont Business Improvement District, the event ran from 12 to 6 p.m. and attracted visitors from all over New York and beyond.

The fair is named after Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, Albania’s beloved national hero, and served as a tribute to Albanian heritage and its deep ties to the Bronx. From speeches about Skënderbeu’s legacy to booths selling Albanian flags and history books, the event reminded everyone of the strength and pride in their roots.

Live folk music, circle dances, and traditional Albanian costumes brought the streets to life, while dozens of vendors served up favorites like byrek, qebapa, baklava, and strong Albanian coffee. Kids enjoyed bounce houses and games, while parents and grandparents sang along to classic tunes echoing through Arthur Avenue.

“It felt like home — like a piece of Albania right here in New York” said one attendee.

More than 100 Albanian-American organizations, churches, and businesses joined the celebration. Popular spots like Prince Coffee House, Noya, and Roots Coffee & Wine took part with special offerings, and volunteers of all ages helped keep things running smoothly.

Proceeds from the fair supported AAOHA’s food pantry, which helps feed hundreds of local families each week — proving that this wasn’t just a party, but also a powerful act of giving back.

From the music and food to the strong sense of unity, the 4th Skënderbeu Street Fair was the biggest one yet — and a clear sign that Bronx Albanians are louder and prouder than ever.
