In the framework of the 30th anniversary of Butrint in UNESCO, a photographic exhibition has been placed in the archaeological museum. It shows all the stages of the development of Butrint as an archaeological center.
The photos show the 1930s when the first archaeological excavations were undertaken and the ongoing ones. The exhibition also brings photos of the conservation interventions of the monuments, as well as views of the impressive environment that this world treasure has.
The exhibition will remain open until 14 December, which coincides with the 16th session of the World Heritage Committee in 1992.
30 years ago in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the 16th session of the World Heritage Committee convened. The committee analyzed and updated the list of world assets from 7-14 December 1992, classifying for the first time the ancient city of Butrint as part of the World Cultural Heritage according to the criterion (C III).
From this session onwards, the boundaries of the map of Butrint as a UNESCO World Heritage have been expanding, and in 2007 the entire territory of the Butrint National Park was approved as a buffer zone for the world heritage.
