On September 16, 1939, the U.S. Legation in Tirana was officially closed after the Italian invasion. The last United States Minister to Albania, Hugh G. Grant, left the country on September 27, 1939. This photo, taken that same year shows, sitting, Hugh G. Grant (on the far left) at Kruja Tekke together with the “Baba” of the Tekke in the middle and, standing, other American officials Erich W. A. Hoffman, Anthony Stevens, and Albanian employees Loni Adami, and Kole Kuqali.
