The New York Police Department has awarded Officer Vlora Gjeka the prestigious Police Combat Cross—its second-highest honor for bravery—for an off-duty act of heroism that saved lives and embodied the finest values of law enforcement.
Gjeka, an Albanian-American with roots in Gjakova, acted fearlessly during an armed confrontation alongside fellow officer Michael Saline. Their quick and courageous intervention neutralized a deadly threat and protected innocent bystanders.
Officer Saline, of Italian-Calabrian background, also proudly acknowledged his Albanian heritage—highlighting how the values of sacrifice and service unite diverse communities.
The American Albanian Law Enforcement Association (AALEA) celebrated this milestone, urging the Albanian-American community to take pride in this remarkable achievement.
