The closeness that Albanians felt for the American flag goes back more than a century. This was openly expressed by children as well, since 1920. In a photo that was shared by the American Embassy in Albania today, Albanian children are seen waving the flag with “stars and stripes”.

This photo was taken on July 4, where the American Day was celebrated in Albania as well.

“Albanian children wave the “Stars and Stripes” flag and celebrate America’s Fourth of July, conveying to American school children across the Atlantic their gratitude for the compassion and humanitarian aid sent to them in time of distress. The photo was published in September 1920 by the American Red Cross in Albania.”
