US Senators Chris Murphy, Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis last week visited Pristina as a part of a Balkan tour. It was indicated that they will put pressure on the Kosovo government to keep its promises for the agreements.
Senator Murphy after his visit to Kosovo, said that Kurti’s government has been particularly stubborn in keeping the talks between Kosovo and Serbia going.
He said that it was their task to deliver strong message to the new Kosovo government.
“A dialogue toward this end is in process, but both the Serbian and Kosovar governments have not made enough progress, and lately, Kurti’s government has been particularly stubborn in keeping the talks going” he said.
Murphy added that Kosovo in order to join NATO and EU must come to an agreement in which both recognize the legal existence of the other state.
“Inside both meetings, Shaheen, Tillis, and I were rigorously consistent in our message on the need to get back into serious talks with Serbia. On many domestic matters, we could easily find ourselves on different pages. I’m a progressive Democrat, Senator Shaheen is a more moderate Democrat, and Senator Tillis is a conservative Republican” Murphy added.
