Adri Mehmeti is back with the United States national team.
The 17-year-old Albanian-American midfielder is in Mauricio Pochettino’s 25-man squad for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against Haiti, alongside Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun and Weston McKennie.
The US plays the first leg on Saturday, November 14, at Nu Stadium in Miami, where Haiti will host the match. The second leg follows on Tuesday, November 17, at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. The winner advances to the semifinals in March.
Mehmeti, a Staten Island native, made his senior debut on September 26 in a 4-1 win over Peru. At 17 years and 173 days old, he became the fifth-youngest midfielder ever to debut for the US. He has since earned three caps.
His rise has been just as quick at club level. In 31 MLS matches for Red Bull New York this season, he has one goal and nine assists. He is also the second-youngest player in league history to log at least 2,500 minutes in a single season, and MLS ranks him third in its 22 Under 22 list.
Before choosing the US, Mehmeti played for Albania at under-15 level, scoring once in three appearances in 2023.
“My dad, without him, I wouldn’t be able to play this game,” he told MLS.
