New York City has taken a significant step toward expanding language access in its electoral process by including the Albanian language for the first time in its Voter Language Assistance Program.
The program, approved by the NYC Civic Engagement Commission, is designed to help voters with limited English proficiency participate more confidently and effectively in local and primary elections across the city.
City officials say the decision is part of a broader effort to strengthen inclusive democracy and ensure that immigrant communities are not left behind in civic participation.
Albanian interpretation services will be available at selected polling sites across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island during early voting and on Election Day.
Early voting in New York City runs from June 13 to June 21, while Election Day is scheduled for June 23. These are local and primary elections, where voters choose candidates running for positions at the city, state, and congressional level depending on the district.
Officials emphasize that the initiative aims to improve equal access to the democratic process, particularly for immigrant communities, including the Albanian community in New York.
