Albanian world-renowned soprano Ermonela Jaho has been awarded the prestigious French title “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres,” one of France’s highest cultural distinctions given to individuals with exceptional contributions to arts and culture.

The honor marks another major milestone in Jaho’s extraordinary international career, as she continues to be recognized among the most respected opera performers in the world.

In an emotional message following the ceremony, Jaho described receiving the distinction as a deeply meaningful moment.

“Receiving the title ‘Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres’ is an extraordinary emotion for me and a deeply cherished honor, because France represents for me a love for art, culture, and human truth” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to those who have accompanied her throughout her artistic journey, especially her long-time agent Dominique Riber for years of trust and support, and Jean-Philippe Thiellay, whose passion for opera and dedication helped make the moment possible.

Jaho said she could not imagine a more beautiful setting for the ceremony than being surrounded by friends, art lovers, and an audience that gave meaning to the sacrifices of an artist’s life.

“I accept this recognition with humility, gratitude, and deep emotion. Thank you, France, for welcoming my voice and my heart with such generosity” she added.

Today, Ermonela Jaho is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading sopranos, having performed on some of opera’s most prestigious stages, including the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, and Teatro alla Scala.
