An Albanian man accused of three murders in 1997 has reportedly been arrested in the United States after spending nearly three decades on the run under a false identity.
According to British media reports, 56-year-old Sokol Hoxha was arrested in Kettering, Ohio, following a years-long international investigation involving U.S. authorities, Interpol, and law enforcement agencies in Europe.
Authorities allege that Hoxha was wanted in connection with the murders of two brothers in Albania in 1997. He is also accused of killing his 19-year-old wife later that same year in Belgium before disappearing and assuming a new identity.
Reports state that Hoxha allegedly entered the United Kingdom by posing as a refugee from Kosovo during the late 1990s conflict in the Balkans. Under the false identity, he reportedly received asylum and later obtained British citizenship.
British newspapers claim he lived in the UK for years before relocating to the United States in 2012, where he continued living under the same identity until his recent arrest in Ohio.
U.S. authorities reportedly tracked him down after a six-year investigation that included fingerprint analysis, immigration records, and international cooperation between multiple agencies.
The arrest has drawn significant attention in both the UK and Albania due to questions surrounding asylum procedures, identity fraud, and how a fugitive allegedly managed to evade authorities for decades.
