The city of Wylie in Texas has officially recognized North Mitrovica as its newest sister city, in a move driven by Albanian-American public official Gino Mulliqi. Mulliqi, a member of the Albanian-American Council and the first Albanian ever elected to public office in the state of Texas, presented the initiative, which was approved during a ceremonial proclamation by Mayor Matthew Porter on behalf of the Wylie City Council and local residents.

The proclamation highlights the importance of strengthening international goodwill, expanding cultural exchange, and promoting cooperation between global communities. According to the official document, both cities share core values of freedom and democracy, principles they describe as essential to long-term development and lasting peace. The new relationship aims to create collaboration in culture, education, economic development, and civic engagement — building what officials describe as “bridges of mutual understanding.”

Authorities emphasized that the proclamation is purely ceremonial and does not create any financial obligations for Wylie. Still, the decision marks a symbolic step toward deeper ties between the two municipalities. With this act, Wylie and North Mitrovica formally begin a new chapter of cooperation, expressing optimism about future opportunities and a partnership rooted in respect, dialogue, and shared democratic ideals.
