The Albanian community made history on Sunday, April 27, with the grand opening of the first-ever Albanian Cultural Center in New York City, established by the renowned “Ana e Malit” Association in Staten Island.

For years, the sons and daughters of Ana e Malit dreamed of a place to call their own—a center to preserve their culture, strengthen community ties, and celebrate Albanian heritage. That dream finally became reality with the opening of a beautiful new building, proudly displaying the “Ana e Malit” logo at its entrance.

Hundreds gathered for the emotional inauguration. Among the welcoming hosts were association leaders Albert Salaj, Safet Llolla, Melinda Gjeloshi, and Ajete Cuca, who greeted guests with heartfelt pride. Special guests included members of the NYPD Illyrian Society of Law Enforcement Officers, a proud symbol of Albanian success and service in the United States.

The celebration featured performances of the American and Albanian National Anthems by opera singer Dëshira Ahmeti Kërliu, vibrant traditional dances by local Albanian groups, and speeches highlighting the significance of this historic moment.

Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, representatives from Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis’ office, NYC Council members, state senators, and other officials joined the festivities, praising the community’s achievement and commitment.
