Në një ceremoni të veçantë për 112-vjetorin e Pavarësisë së Shqipërisë, flamuri shqiptar u ngrit me krenari në Bowling Green, Manhattan. Ky event tradicional u organizua nga Zyra e Kryebashkiakut të Nju Jorkut dhe ish-anëtari i Këshillit të Qytetit, Mark Gjonaj, duke mirëpritur personalitete si Kryebashkiaku Eric Adams, Ambasadori i Shqipërisë në SHBA Ervin Bushati dhe Shefi i Misionit të Kosovës në New York, Blerim Reka.
Këtë vit, u nderuan Vera Mjeku, Fadil Berisha dhe Esad Gjonbalaj për kontributin e tyre në komunitetin shqiptaro-amerikan. Në ceremoni, performanca nga Ajkun Ballet Theater dhe pjesëmarrja e Illyrian Society Color Guard të NYPD e bënë ngjarjen edhe më të veçantë. Kryebashkiaku Adams theksoi simbolikën e ngritjes së flamurit shqiptar përkrah atij amerikan, duke e cilësuar si një dëshmi të unitetit dhe krenarisë së shqiptarëve në Amerikë.
Ceremonia, e cila filloi me lutjen e hapjes nga Imami Tahir Kukaj, festoi trashëgiminë e pasur të diasporës dhe kontributet e saj. Në mbrëmje, një pritje speciale u mbajt për të vazhduar festimet, duke shënuar kështu një moment krenarie për komunitetin shqiptar në Nju Jork.
