Kurti: The situation in the north could escalate into armed conflict

Share

In the northern municipalities of Kosovo, on July 31, there was a risk of the situation escalating into an armed conflict, “because of the fear injected by Belgrade and because of the plans made in Raska and Belgrade”. This is what the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said in an interview for Radio Free Europe.

According to him, the barricades that were placed on the northern roads, contrary to the implementation of the decision on license plates and entry documents for Serbian citizens, were positioned in such a way that weapons could be fired at vehicles and people passing through that area.

Kurti has said that he will not discuss the decisions on license plates and entry documents in the meeting he will have with the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, on August 18 in Brussels. According to him, in order to avoid the tensions of July 31 on September 1, international factors “must repel Belgrade in its destructive approach to Kosovo”.

The prime minister has made it known that there are suspicions of infiltrations from Russia since, according to him, the Kremlin wants to use Serbia as a platform to destabilize the Balkans and, in particular, to attack Kosovo.

As for the agreement on the Association for municipalities with a Serbian majority, he said that organizations that unite municipalities with particular geographical or economic features are necessary, but not those based on ethnicity.
