The National Historical Museum, in cooperation with the Academy of Albanian Studies, organized the open lecture on “100 years of Albanian-American relations (1922-2022)”. This event was organized on the occasion of July 4, the Independence Day of the USA.
The guest of honor to refer to the history of these relations and close ties between the two nations was prof. dr. Hamit Kaba, researcher at the Academy of Albanological Studies.
Present at this event was the US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, as well as diplomats and researchers of history and international relations.
During the lecture he gave to the audience, prof. Dr. Hamit Kaba, among other things, asserted that, although officially the Albanian-American relations span a period of 100 years, in reality the first contacts are even earlier.
He stopped at the periodization of these relations in four different historical phases. Analyzing each period in detail, the lecturer focused especially on some historical events, such as, for example, the invasion of Albania in 1939 by Fascist Italy, where the USA was among the few countries that not only condemned the invasion, but also withdrew their diplomatic mission from Albania. He also recalled NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, where the USA took the initiative, as well as the support and assistance to the Albanian nation and Albania after the fall of communism and the contribution to the smooth running of democratic processes.
