Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to call for more heavy weapons when addressing the group of seven most industrialized nations on Monday.
This group consists of: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan.
His address comes after a host of Russian rocket attacks on Kiev, and other areas over the weekend, of which at least one person was killed.
In eastern Ukraine, Russia has gained full control of Severodonjeck, and is targeting Lisichansk.
On Sunday, Zelensky said the delays in sending weapons were “an invitation to Russia to strike again.”
In his daily address, he called for new defense systems and sanctions against Russia.
“Partners need to act faster, if they are really partners, not observers,” he said.
The war in Ukraine is at the top of the G7 agenda, and the participating countries are expected to pledge more military support for Kiev, as well as more sanctions for Moscow.
Western leaders are trying to show a united front, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz saying the Russian missile strikes show “it was the right decision to unite and support the Ukrainians.”
US President Joe Biden has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin thought that NATO and the G7 would split, “but this has not happened and will not happen.”
After the G7 Summit, this time held in Bavaria, NATO leaders will then meet in Spain.
Zelensky is also expected to deliver a speech there.
