Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesnky has submitted the form for obtaining the status of candidate country for EU membership.

Zelesnky handed the form to the head of the EU delegation to Ukraine, Mati Masikas.

“I want to thank you for this important meeting. Today is one of the key stages for our country’s membership in the European Union. This is the ambition for which our people are fighting, “said Zelensky, adding that this step for his country comes at a tragic time when many Ukrainians representing European values ​​are losing their lives.

We believe that we will gain support and become candidates for membership. Then the next, final phase will begin. “We strongly believe that this process will take place in the coming weeks and that it will be positive for the history of our people, given the price it has paid on the path to independence and democracy,” he said.

The head of the EU delegation to Ukraine noted that this process is taking place in a very difficult situation for Ukraine.

According to Maasika, the Ukrainian form “will be analyzed very soon” by the relevant EU department.
