During the war, Ukraine regularly published estimates of casualties among Russia, and Russia itself did so irregularly.
Now that the conflict has entered its eighth week, the two sides have released high figures for each other, reports the BBC but without being able to verify the data.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister says in a Facebook post that 20,300 Russian soldiers have been killed since February 24.
Russia, meanwhile, says it has inflicted heavy damage on the Ukrainian military for 23,367 troops, but did not specify whether it was just death or casualties.
The two sides also present different situations for the damages they have had.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed.
Russia’s Defense Ministry says 1,351 soldiers were killed during the fighting in the latest update made on March 25.
