Less than two months after securing a second term as president, Emmanual Macron has lost control of the French parliament, amid growing support for the far-left and far-right alliances.
Macron has called on voters to secure a solid majority.
But his center-right coalition has lost dozens of seats in elections that have drawn significant divisions in French politics.
The French Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, has said that the situation is unprecedented.
According to her, modern France has never had such a parliamentary composition.
“This situation poses a danger to our country, given the dangers we are facing both nationally and internationally” she said.
“We will work from tomorrow to create a functional majority,” she said, although the other two largest groups in parliament do not seem interested in cooperating.
