Hyundai Motor America has recalled 239,000 cars in the United States and 42,000 in Canada because seat belt pretensioners can explode during a crash and injure occupants with metal fragments, Reuters reported.
The cars covered in the recall are some 2019-2022 Accents, 2021-2023 Elantras, and 2021-2022 Elantra hybrid vehicles, Reuters said.
The company said the request was made because in the event of a collision of the car on the side of the driver or front passenger, the seat belts could explode and cause injury.
Three injuries have been reported as a result of the collision of these cars, two in the US and one in Singapore, the American network, CBS News reported.
All drivers who have cars, which are suspected to have problems, will be notified by July 15th.
