Elon Musk threatens to give up buying Twitter

Share

Billionaire Elon Musk has threatened to pull out of the $ 44 billion acquisition of social networking site Twitter, accusing platform executives of blocking his claims to learn more about the company’s users.

In a letter sent to regulators, Musk said he has the right to make his own measurements for fictitious accounts.

This letter formalizes the disagreements that have been circulating for several weeks, as Musk has been “waiting” for the finalization of the agreement.

Twitter, on the other hand, has defended its measurements.

After the suspension of the offer for a short period of time, Musk has said that he suspects that fictitious accounts on this social network make up 20 percent of the total users, compared to Twitter claims for five percent.

Disagreements between the parties have raised doubts about whether the purchase will take place, which was approved by the Twitter board in April.

Analysts have said that Musk – head of Tesla and SpaceX – may be using the issue of fictitious users to renegotiate the price or even give up buying the social network altogether.

Musk faces $ 1 million in fines and possible lawsuits if he waives the deal.
